The word sustainability can mean different things to different people. In its broadest sense, sustainability is balancing the needs of now with the needs of tomorrow.
But for us, it’s more than that. It’s recognising we’re in the fight of our lives to protect our planet and create fairness in society. It’s about going beyond simply what’s required under regulation and doing more to play our role.
We’re not there yet, but we’ve started our journey. Here’s more about what we’re doing.
Our sustainability benchmarks
We have developed our own sustainability audit framework to underpin our work in the housing sector. This helps us rate our developments against economic, social and environmental sustainability benchmarks.
- Use of Renewable Energy
- Energy Efficient Homes
- Landscaped area provided
- Use of MMC
- Existing Habitats protected
- Net bio-diversity gain
- Reuse of brownfield land
- Flood defense enhancements
- C02 Vehicle reduction measures
- Remediation of contaminted site
- Training contribution
- Apprentice contribution
- Local supplier opportunity
- Local trades opportunity
- Employment/commercial outlets
- Community infrastructure levy
- Increased council tax receipts
- Stamp duty receipts
- New homes bonus
- Sustained boost to local economy
Our sustainability pledges
We’ve made three main sustainability pledges on the projects we undertake. These pledges are:
Increased use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) in our supply chain
Delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain above statutory levels
Increased delivery of affordable homes above statutory s106 levels
Our sustainability policies
Outside of our project work, we recognise the need to do more as a company on our own journey to carbon neutrality. More information about what we’re doing can be found in our sustainability policy.
